History

You might now be thinking “why on earth is there a Croatian village in Texas?”.

Well, Adriatica Village actually has an interesting story about how it came to be.

This unique place in McKinney was purposely built to recreate the feel and look of a Croatian village.

The idea started because the main developer, Jeff Blackard, wanted to bring a piece of European charm to Texas.

They chose Croatian architecture because it’s known for its beautiful designs and historical significance.

The construction of Adriatica Village then began in the early 2000s.

The developers studied Croatian towns and villages closely to make sure they could mimic the style accurately.

They mainly modeled it after a small fishing village on the island of Brač called Supetar.

Supetar, Croatia

They paid a lot of attention to details, from the types of stones used in the buildings to the layout of the streets.

Everything was designed to make you feel like you are in Croatia even though you’re right in the middle of Texas.

The main goal was to create a modern community that felt like a small European town where people could live, work, shop and play.

The developers wanted to offer a unique living experience that combined the beauty of old-world architecture with modern amenities.

It was also built as a place where people could gather for community events.

Building Adriatica Village was a big project and cost over $250 million.

It involved architects, historians and builders who all worked together.

They used materials that would not only look authentic but also last a long time, just like the buildings in Croatia.

They also made sure to include lots of public spaces, like the village square and the waterfront, to keep the community feeling open and welcoming.

Today, Adriatica Village is not just a residential area but also a popular destination for visitors.
