There are so many amazing things to do in Venice so I’ve put them together into this ultimate Venice bucket list so you don’t have to. This list includes some of Venice’s most famous tourist spots as well as some places that you won’t have heard of!

  1. Step inside St Mark’s Basilica, Venice’s iconic cathedral.

  1. Hop onto a water taxi or vaporetto to reach your destination. 

  1. Get lost in the narrow streets of Venice. 

  1. Grab yourself a tasty slice of pizza along the Grand Canal. 
  1. Indulge in some delicious Italian pasta and watch the boats sailing along beside you. 

  1. Cross the Rialto Bridge, one of Venice’s most impressive bridges. Make sure you spend a moment to enjoy the view.

  1. Indulge in a scoop of gelato. Feel free to try your favourite flavour.
  1. Grab yourself some lunch or a drink in Piazza San Marco and just watch the world go by.

  1. Admire the gothic architecture of Doge’s Palace. This palace was once the residence of the ruler of Venice, dating back to the 14th century. 
  1. See the famous Bridge of Sighs. Historically, this bridge was used to lead prisoners into prison, it was their last glimpse of Venice.

  1. See the colourful houses of Burano.

  1. Take a water taxi to San Giorgio Maggiore, a small island, that can be seen from the Grand Canal. It features a monastery, a church and a campanile very similar to the one in St Mark’s Square. 
  1. Visit the Ca’ d’Oro palace which sits along the Grand Canal. Admire the Venetian gothic architecture in one of Venice’s oldest palaces.

  1. The Gallerie dell’Accademia is the best place in Venice for art, it’s filled with interesting pre-19th century art. 

  1. Admire the intricate carvings of the Salute Basilica. This is one of the biggest and most impressive basilicas in Venice.

  1. Escape the crowds and relax on the peaceful island of Torcello. It is home to just 15 inhabitants!
  1. Cross the Ponte dell’Accademia bridge which crosses the Grand Canal at its southern end. This bridge gives one of the best views of Venice.

  1. Dine in a restaurant along the Grand Canal. Enjoy the views as you indulge in some Italian food.

  1. Visit the world’s first ghetto dating back to 1516. The Jewish District of Venice is definitely an interesting and exciting area to explore and was once a segregated area meaning Jewish people were restricted to this area of Venice. 

  1. Indulge in some Venetian tapas! Referred to as ‘cicchetti’, you’ll find this all over Venice.

  1. Visit the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, a modern art museum on the Grand Canal filled with artwork from the most influential European and American artists of the 20th century. 

  1. Step inside the San Sebastiano church, this 16th century Roman Catholic church houses Paolo Veronese’s (an Italian renaissance painter) most famous paintings. 

  1. Stop by at the Torcello Cathedral. This basilica is the oldest building in Venice, located on the island of Torcello, and was built back in 639 AD.

  1. Take a peek inside the Libreria Acqua Alta bookstore! This store attracts visitors with its staircase made from books and the fact it keeps books in bathtubs and boats! There’s even a gondola filled with books!

  1. Marvel at the beauty of St Mark’s Clock Tower. Completed in 1499, legend has it that the Doge of Venice thought it was so beautiful that he had the clockmaker blinded so he couldn’t create one that would rival it.

  1. Visit the Rialto Market, an open-air market which sells the freshest produce and fish you can find! Venice locals buy their food here on a daily basis and many restaurants also shop here.
